Herbert Stecher

Herbert Stecher, born 1958 in Cologne, is a qualified designer. After graduating in photo design with Prof. Pan Walther and Prof. Harald Mante he has worked as a freelance photo designer since 1988. From 1999 to 2015 he was co-owner of an advertising agency. Already in the early 1990s he had been realising a variety of art projects, including extensive photographic travels through the US, which resulted in the coffee-table book “Christmas in America”. Another focus of Stecher in these times was on abstract acrylic painting. In 1996 Stecher teamed up with Jörg Winde to found the project group DIGITALIS to produce so called “Scanographies”. From 1997 onwards, he also added large-scale computer-generated pictures for print on canvas – so called “Abstractions” – to his portfolio. In 2011 Stecher presented his light objects made from concrete, iron and painted surfaces for the first time.
